The Bunad- Norwegian Regional
Costumes
About Us:
Krivi Vev is a textile mill
in Central-Western Norway which has specialized in the production of
textiles for folk costumes and “bunad”s.
Krivi Vev was founded
twenty years ago. During this period an increasing interest
for bunads and folk costumes has developed here in Norway.
This means that we have had a considerable growth in our production.
Bunads
are very popular in Norway and there are many variations.
Alternatively more and more people purchase folk costumes.
This costume is a more free interpretation of the
traditional Norwegian dress and does not necessarily have the same
deep roots in the old traditions of a certain district.
We weave textiles in the
following materials: wool, linen, and cotton. In
addition we create special textiles according to our customer’s
specifications. This requires a minimum order of 200 meters.
We have now decided to enter
the US market for finished bunads. This is most likely
to be of interest to Americans with Norwegian roots. We
understand it can be difficult to navigate the “bunad” market.
It can also be difficult to be sure of getting original goods and
therefore it can be helpful to have guidance.
What can we do for you?
The prise of a bunad varies
somewhat according to which bunad one chooses.
We can make suggestions to
you with photos of the bunad and the silver jewellery from “your
Norwegian district” and at the same time send photos and
descriptions of shoes.
We can also send material
swatches.
Price
When you have chosen bunad,
silver jewellery, and shoes we can give a total price in Norwegian
kroner. A calculation of shipping costs will also be included.
If you wish, we can give prices for different alternatives.
Payment
At the time of order, we
request a deposit of 25% to cover the cost of materials. You
will then receive an order confirmation and receipt along with a
delivery date.
Delivery
On delivery the bunad will
include a guarantee that all components in the bunad are authentic
and that all are produced in Norway. Delivery time is from 2-3
months. This is due to the large amount of hand sewing and
embroidery work which goes into the production of a bunad.
Yardage
For those who wish to sew
their own bunad, we can also deliver material by the meter.
Delivery time for yardage is one to two weeks.
